How long is it going to take to solo level that guild? Can a guild of just a few people ever get the good guild perks? Keep reading to find the answer.
Mists of Pandaria brought the normalization of guild XP granted for completing quests that grant XP or Honor (or would grant XP if there weren’t a level cap, basically gray quests won’t grant guild XP but others will). Prior to the patch, completing a quest rewarded the character’s guild with 1/4 of the XP gained by the character. This meant that before level 70 or 80, leveling characters contributed very little to help level their guild. Since patch 5.0, however, any quest that grants experience also grants 60,000 guild XP. 60,000 is about what a level 90 quest would have granted under the old system. This is great news for small guilds.
The short story is that you will need to level somewhere between 7 and 11 characters from 1 to 90 through questing to raise your guild to level 25.
See the tables below for more detailed information. The first table shows the amount of guild XP required for each guild level. The “# of 90′s” column is an estimate of how many characters you would need to level from 1 to 90 with no XP bonus to reach the given guild level. The “#90′s w/ +40% XP” column is the same idea but assuming you are leveling your toons with +XP heirlooms and/or guild perks. Your reality will probably be somewhere in between. The data assumes that all leveling is done through normal world questing.
| Guild Level | XP Required | Cumulative XP Required | # of 90’s | #90’s w/ +40% XP |

This next table shows the data I used to calculate the “# of 90′s” column above. The table shows a reasonable leveling path for a Night Elf character. The “# Quests” for each zone is taken from the zone quest achievements or by counting quest lists for Pandaria zones. Obviously the number of quests completed per zone will vary somewhat from the values given. The idea is just to get in the ballpark. I obtained the “With +40% XP” value by simply dividing the full value by 1.4.
| Zone | Level Range | # Quests | Guild XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teldrassil | 1-10 | 50 | 3,000,000 |

Note that running dungeons (outside of a guild group) may help speed up your character leveling but will slow down your guild leveling. This is because dungeon quests and mobs grant more XP than those outside of dungeons so your character will move further toward their next level but your guild will still get the flat 60,000 XP per quest. Of course completing quests at max level still grants guild XP so this point may not matter to you.
Another change in Mists of Pandaria is that the Darkmoon Faire dailies now grant guild XP.
How has Mists of Pandaria affected your small guild experience?
I would suggest doing all of the quests in “Vanilla” then progressing to the next areas. (locking at different levels along the way so that you don’t out level a zone not sure this would work or not, can check), Not only would make it so you would have to level a bunch of toons, you would get lore master along the way.
So, I would do Krasarang Wilds first, Dread Wastes gives you 256K xp per quest, do this last because you will still get guild XP for doing the quests I am pretty sure. Remember the idea is to level the guild not necessarily the character.
This is something that would definitely work for some play styles. I’ll add a column “# of Loremasters” to the table. Quests completed with experience locked do indeed grant guild XP (I just verified this in game, patch 5.1)
